Every hour you log becomes something real: logs, checklists, visual guides, presentation notes, dashboard entries, and a school safety brief.
Everything stays safe, age-appropriate, and non-confrontational — you're never asked to approach or challenge a driver, and you'll come out of it a safer pedestrian, cyclist, passenger, and future driver.

Part A: 5-Hour Digital Training Syllabus
CRSIF Mission, Vision Zero & the Walkable Community
Students learn CRSIF's prevention-first mission, why language matters, and how young people can help identify preventable safety risks.
The Physics of Stopping Distance
Students learn reaction distance + braking distance = total stopping distance and why lower speeds matter around schools and residential streets.
School Bus, Walking, Cycling & Micro-Mobility Safety
Students study bus danger zones, helmet use, visibility, crossing predictability, and safe behaviour around vulnerable road users.
Junior Micro-Audit Field Methods
Students learn how to count pedestrians, track helmet use, observe distracted walking, identify blocked signs, and record school-zone flow issues.
Junior Scout Safety Protocol & Exam
Students complete safety training and must pass the Junior Scout Safety Exam with a minimum score of 80% before fieldwork is unlocked.
Part B: 15-Hour Micro-Field Labs
School Property Flow Audits
Students observe from approved safe locations near school loops during drop-off or dismissal. They tally blocked walkways, bus-loop issues, crosswalk conflicts, and safe/unsafe flow patterns without confronting drivers.
Active Transportation Counts
Students track how peers arrive at school: walking, cycling, scooters, bus, or car. They may also record helmet use, distracted walking, winter visibility concerns, and marked-crossing use.
Subdivision Sidewalk and Visibility Audits
Students walk an approved residential loop with a peer, parent, guardian, or supervisor and identify broken sidewalks, blocked signs, poor lighting, missing curb cuts, snow/ice issues, and low-speed visibility gaps.
Phase 2: Peer Advocacy & Active Influence
Hours 21-30Credit Allocation: 10 Hours · Environment: Home/digital creation lab + school community or approved youth-group setting.
Safe Walk to School Visual Guide
Students create a clear poster, map, or visual guide showing safer walking routes, visible crossing points, caution areas, and practical tips for younger students.
Be Seen Visibility Challenge
Students create a short video storyboard, poster, or social-media concept showing why visibility matters in dusk, rain, snow, crowded school zones, and winter conditions.
Elementary or Youth Safety Presentation
Students prepare and deliver a short Safe Commute presentation for a younger class, youth group, club, sports team, or approved classroom audience using CRSIF materials and their own visuals.
Phase 3: Data Input & School Safety Briefing
Hours 31-40Credit Allocation: 10 Hours · Environment: CRSIF dashboard + school-based communication.
Data Aggregation & Logging
Students enter their 15 hours of field data into the CRSIF Junior Data Dashboard and organize observations into a clean template.
Junior Risk Mapping Tool
Students plot non-identifying hazard locations such as blocked signs, faded crossing areas, broken sidewalks, snow/ice obstructions, poor lighting, and confusing school-loop patterns.
Principal Briefing Note
Students write a respectful 1-page School Zone Safety Brief for their principal, student council president, or designated school safety lead.
Submission & Program Graduation
Students submit the final brief, upload proof of transmission, complete an exit evaluation, and receive the Road Safety Scout Certificate once verified.

Verification & Safety Standards
- Every field activity must be documented through a time-stamped CRSIF portal entry or approved paper log.
- Students must remain in approved safe observation locations and may not enter roads, active vehicle paths, or parking-lot lanes during audits.
- Students must follow supervision rules, including peer, parent/guardian, or school-approved supervision where required.
- Students may not photograph or record faces, license plates, vehicle occupants, or private conversations.
- Each major deliverable must be uploaded to the CRSIF portal for review and hour verification.
Strategic Positioning: From Scout to Ambassador
The Scout Program is the foundation layer of the CRSIF youth road-safety ecosystem. It builds awareness, observation discipline, safety vocabulary, and school-community confidence. Students who complete this pathway are better prepared to progress into the Road Safety Ambassador Program, where they can take on deeper field audits, peer advocacy, data synthesis, and civic engagement.
