Senior Vulnerable Road-User Safety
Targeted interventions and education designed around the risks older pedestrians face most.
Older pedestrians and cyclists are involved in a disproportionate share of serious road injuries. This program targets that risk directly, pairing focused education with a review of the intersections seniors actually use.
Where the risk concentrates
CRSIF reviews crossing times, sightlines and driver-yield behaviour at intersections near seniors' centres, retirement communities and frequently used transit stops.
Education that meets people where they are
Sessions run through community centres and seniors' groups, covering visibility, mobility-device considerations, and safer crossing strategies.
Evidence for local change
Findings feed into the same aggregated, privacy-safe reporting CRSIF uses everywhere else — usable by municipalities considering signal timing or crossing upgrades.
Key Points
- Focused on the pedestrian and cyclist risks older adults face most often
- Combines direct education with intersection-level review
- Findings are shareable with municipalities for infrastructure decisions
